Neo-Nordic Surrealism is the term Sandra Strømme uses to describe her visual language—a synthesis of dreamlike imagery, symbolic narratives, and Northern cultural references. Rooted in Surrealism’s exploration of the unconscious and the irrational, her work reinterprets these traditions through a Nordic lens, drawing on mythology, folklore, ancestral crafts, and the atmospheric landscapes of the North. This approach merges the mystical and the psychological, blending ancient symbols with contemporary introspection. Neo-Nordic Surrealism becomes a space where myth, memory, and emotion converge—giving form to inner worlds that feel timeless yet personal.

Myths carried, myths cast

This series is part of an ongoing attempt to give form to a mythology of the self—fragmented, layered, and shaped by imagination and inherited symbols. The works explore the tension between what we carry and what we transform, tracing how internalised myths are both held and reimagined through image, memory, and time.

Architectures of the subconscious

In this series, houses, doors, and constructed spaces serve as metaphors for the subconscious—revealing how the mind builds meaning through the architecture of the inner world.

Rooms within

A series of introspective interiors, where spaces become containers of emotion and memory—each room a reflection of the self, shaped by absence, presence, and the act of looking inward.

Chronicles

Chronicles brings together autobiographical works that trace moments, emotions, and personal symbols—fragments of lived experience translated into visual form.
